Goodreads Synopsis:

Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…

Jane (reads too many books) is

Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…

Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.

A/N: Eðian = people who change into animals, you're welcome.

The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?

My Lady Jane, the first book in the Lady Janies series, puts its own spin on the very true story of Lady Jane Grey, a monarch of the Tudor reign who reigned England for only nine days.

In the book, Jane is forced upon the throne after her cousin Edward, the current King, mysteriously dies. Right before he died, however, Edward had her married off in order to secure the royal bloodline (yes, he decreed it because apparently that was a thing back in the 16th century) and leaves Jane behind with a horse of a husband.

I was immediately drawn to the unconventional approach taken by the writers in terms of crafting such a diverse plot; and adored each and every moment I spent with this book.

The story takes us through what 'really' happened to Lady Jane, and cleverly compares the Protestant uprisings of her time (which actually led to the REAL Jane's reign only being nine days) to that of the Eðian's (check out the video down below). My Lady Jane is easily one of the best books I've ever read and is a must read for anyone who's a fan of historical fiction. (be ready for a couple fourth wall breakdowns)
